Arriving in Amsterdam

After a good flight, we arrived to sunny weather and brisk winds blowing through the city of  Amsterdam.  We were greeted by our tour guides Kathy and Barry.   Those of us who were on the last trip were happy to see Barry once again.  After loading our luggage on to the buses we were then given free time to sample some local delicacies such as croquetten and "frites met mayonaise".  One student was heard to say, "Now THAT'S what you call a croquet!"  Barry then led us on a walking tour through many of the narrow and historical streets of the inner city that are not accessible by bus.  We ended our walk at the Anne Frank house where we were

reminded of the horrors that the Frank family and many other Jewish families endured while in hiding during the Nazi occupation of Holland in WWII.  We finished the day with a lovely steak dinner at Haesje Claes restaurant.  It was then time for a 45-minute bus ride to our hotel in Lelystad where 64 weary travellers were ready to catch up on hours of sleep that were wrested away from us during the flight across the ocean.
