You are my Hiding Place

'The day was started with a delicious breakfast which included bacon, eggs, cheese, yogurt, fruit salad, cereal, sugar bread, juice, and a variety of coffee.  Wow!  Then it was back on the buses for a short drive through the fog to city of Haarlem, just west of Amsterdam.  Haarlem was the home of the Ten Boom family, who gave shelter to Jews and others during WWII.  "This home was an oasis for those in desperate need."   Corrie Ten Boom and her father and sister recognized their calling from the Lord to offer the help that was so deperately needed by so many to hide from the clutches of the Nazi regime.  The hiding place was a narrow space behind the back wall of Corrie's bedroom which could be entered only through the bottom of her linen closet.  One time this space had to be occupied by six people for 47 hours.   The Ten Boom family was able to save the lives of over 700 people though they were eventually betrayed and sent to concentration camps where Corrie's father and sister died.  We sat in the Ten Boom living room and  were blessed by this very meaningful and inspirational account of the extraordinary events that occurred in this very ordinary house.
We then drove back to Amsterdam and enjoyed a bus tour of the city led by two local and very knowledgeable guides.  The tour concluded at the Rembrandt Hoeve farm where we were entertained by lively explanations of how cheese and  klompen are made.  We were given opportunity to purchase cheese and other Dutch "romel."  After dinner we were given some free time for some more shopping, to buy more "romel" for our loved ones back home.
